Bullets, Nomads win

Nyasa Big Bullets recovered from Saturday’s loss to Kamuzu Barracks and put up an impressive performance to beat Civo United 2-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Be Forward Wanderers also continued their resurrection as they came from behind to beat Azam Tigers 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

At Civo Stadium, Muhammad Sulumba and substitute Mussa Manyenje scored in a controversy-marred TNM Super League tussle.

The win ended the defending champions’ three match winless run in the league which saw then battered by minnows Karonga United and held by Wizards FC.

Sulumba put the People’s Team ahead in the 15th minute after outpacing the hosts’ defence to hammer the ball home.

However, referee Brighton Gwiricho nearly spoiled the match midway through the second half after awarding Bullets a dubious goal.

The referee blew the whistle for a Bullets free-kick in Civo’s half, but the visitors continued playing and Manyenje scored when Civo players had stopped marking to pave the way for the free-kick.

Gwiricho awarded the goal before rescinding the decision.

But Manyenje still sealed Bullets victory in the closing stages after cruising  past Civo defenders before unleashing a low shot past goalkeeper Innocent Phiri.

Bullets team manager Rahim Ishmael said it was a relief to break the cycle of poor form.

Civo coach Milias Jegwe Pofera was optimistic that the team could recover in upcoming matches. Civo’s loss follows an 0-4 defeat to Red Lions.

At Kamuzu Stadium, Azam Tigers took an early lead in the 10th minute through Peter Katsonga.

But Wanderers’ Peter Wadabwa equalised in the 33rd minute before winger Isaac Kaliati gave the Nomads victory in 49th minute.

The Nomads are on position nine with 17 points from 10 games just above Bullets who are 11th with 16 points from 10 matches as well.
